Kristen Capps, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in Maryland who strives to help each client feel seen, valued, and accepted. Dr. Capps works from an integrative approach, drawing on a range of intervention methods to tailor the treatment to each client. Dr. Capps particularly appreciates opportunities to help clients learn about themselves in order to gain more control over their ways of thinking, feeling, and interacting in their daily lives. In work with individuals of any age, Dr. Capps brings a sense of playfulness; playing with ideas, perspectives, and new ways of being.
Dr. Capps is certified in Circle of Security Parenting, and has completed extensive doctoral and post-doctoral training in working with children, particularly from trauma-informed, attachment, and developmental perspectives. She strongly values the role of caregivers in their child’s treatment, and works to support them in feeling empowered as their child’s most important ally.
Dr. Capps earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Adelphi University, a M.A. in psychology from the New School for Social Research, and a B.A. in psychology from Michigan State University. In addition to clinical work, she has enjoyed teaching at the college level, coordinating intervention research, providing trainings and presentations, and engaging with the community. She is a certified trainer for the Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention program, and recurrent trainer on vicarious trauma prevention.
