Psychotherapy modalities include cognitive/behavioral
psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families and groups. His
specialties include psychodiagnostic evaluation of mental disorders,
attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD), aspergers, learning disabilites
and behavior disorders in addition to psychological and forensic
assessments. He currently serves on the Carroll County Public
Schools Health Council, is a public speaker on various topics
including ADHD and serves as a consultant for the media.
James S. Choi, M.D.
Board Certified Psychiatrist 
Dr. Choi brings over thirty years experience to the practice.
He treats adult patients with chronic severe mental disorder
such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and refractory depression
and provides psychotropic medication management. He also provides
psychiatric evaluation and treatment of patients suffering from
Alzheimer's dementia. Dr. Choi did his residency at Connecticut
Valley Hospital and Yale University Hospital. Formerly on staff
with Springfield Hospital Center and Carroll Hospital Center,
and consultant for various facilities in the area, Dr. Choi
is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry.

Hopkins, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Hopkins provides individual and family therapy for adults and
adolescents suffering from a range of emotional and behavioral problems.
He employs strategic, psychodynamic, behavioral and hypnotherapeutic
principles and techniques in this work.
Pamela Hain, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Hain completed her undergraduate studies in psychology at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY and received her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology and the University of Maryland. She has done extensive research in weight reduction and the perceived family relationships as it correlates to eating attitudes, behaviors, depression, and body satisfaction. She specializes in children’s programs, parenting and counseling.
In addition to her extensive knowledge of eating disorders, she also has experience working with personality disorders, depression, anxiety and stress in groups of all ages. She has worked in both school-based and clinical settings treating children with various issues including: ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, mood and anxiety disorders using social-skills training, techniques for improving self-control, and behavioral strategies for addressing anger management. She works with parents in providing specific skills to more successfully negotiate parenting challenges and coordinated programs to address specific issues, such as bullying.
Krista Beyer, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
A graduate of Argosy University in Honolulu, Dr. Beyer, received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Her Masters was earned at the American School of Professional Psychology in Hawaii and her Bachelors in psychology is from the University of California. She was a therapist in Honolulu for geriatric patients before taking a position as staff psychologist with the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill's Counseling and Psychological Service. Her areas of service include anxiety/phobia; career counseling/decision making; cognitive-behavioral therapy; crisis intervention; co-dependency issues; communication problems; cross cultural/ethnic identity issues; depression; dream interpretation; general problems/daily life; generalized anxiety disorders; inner child; interpersonal problems; life transitions; loneliness; mid-life crisis/issues; relationship issues; self-esteem/self-concept; stress; women's issues.
Robert Lea, Ed. D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Lea, a former instructor in Psychology and Social Relations
at Harvard, obtained his doctorate from Harvard Graduate School
of Education. He is licensed in Maryland, is certified in PBSP
Psychomotor Psychotherapy, experiential mind/body group psychotherapy,
and has been in private practice from 1979 until present working
with individuals, couples, children and adolescents. Dr. Lea
experiences success working with young boys and adolescents
with behavioral and other issues. His dissertation at Harvard
was: Acting Up Disorders In Young Children.

Laura Malcy, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Malcy provides a variety of assessment and intervention services to children with autism spectrum disorders. She also provides school consultations, social skills groups for children/adolescents with autism spectrum disorders, and individual treatment services. Other assessments include testing for learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD), and emotional disturbance. She conducts individual and family psychotherapy sessions using therapeutic interventions including cognitive-behavioral, play therapy, and parent training. Dr. Reusing provides assessment and treatment for children age 6
through adulthood. She conducts intellectual and personality assessments
and individual and family psychotherapy. Her work was published by
the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, and
magazine features in McCall’s and GQ (Gentleman’s Quarterly).

M. Shapiro, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Shapiro specializes in neurocognitive assessment and management
of patients with Attention Deficit Disorder and/or Learning Disabilities,
dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders, traumatic brain injury,
cerebovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease,
epilepsy and HIV. She also provides assessment and treatment of patients
with neurotoxic exposure, pediatric neurological disorder, psychiatric
illnesses, including depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Alok
Rawat, M.D.
Board Certified Psychiatrist
Dr. Rawat specializes in the treatment of anxiety and depression
in patients from the age of 18 on up. He is also specialized in cognitive
behavioral therapy and sports psychology. His services include evaluations,
medication management and psychotherapy.

Sherri B. Abraham, Psy.D.

Dr. Abraham recently moved to Maryland from Florida where she
maintained a private practice specializing in assessment and
treatment of affective disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, learning

Dr. Petrillo is a retired Navy Clinical Psychologist who served 23 years at locations around the world. He presently works for the Department of Defense. Sangeeta
Verma, M.D.
Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr. Verma completed her Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
at Johns Hopkins University. She treats children as young as
five years of age on up to adolescents age 18. She is trained
to evaluate a number of conditions affecting this population,
such as, depression, behavioral issues, ADHD, anxiety, trauma,
relationship problems, and any number of other environmental
and/or neurological circumstances. She is a member of Child
and Adolescent Psychiatric Association and the Maryland Psychiatric
Society.
Carly Rohde, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Rohde earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University,
Maryland and her masters in Clinical Psychology from Radford University. Prior
to coming to Carroll Counseling Center, Dr. Rohde worked with undergraduate and
graduate students at Virginia Tech, Loyola University Maryland, and the George
Washington University. Dr. Rohde works with a variety of clients and has
specific interests in the areas of eating disorder/body image issues and LGBTQ
issues. Her primary modalities are cognitive-behavioral and interpersonally
based therapies.
Michael Thoerig, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Thoerig completed his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at Widener University, Pennsylvania with a concentration in School Psychology and Biofeedback. He provides individual and family therapy for children, adolescents, and adults addressing difficulties with anxiety, depression, family conflict, school difficulties, social skills, and self-image. He primarily utilizes structural, cognitive/behavioral, parent training, interpersonal, and biofeedback techniques and strategies in his work.
Dr. Thoerig is BCIA Board Certified in the delivery of biofeedback services. Biofeedback involves the training of awareness and control of certain physiological responses, some of which include breath patterns, muscle tension, heart function, and skin temperature. This training can be utilized to address issues related to stress and anxiety in children, adolescents, and adults.

Ms. Raznick manages the day-to-day business of Carroll Counseling
Center. She has a M.A. in Management from the College of
Notre Dame of Maryland. Her duties include financial management,
insurance negotiations, marketing, staffing and planning.

Executive Assistant/Billing Coordinator
Pearl Fisher is the billing coordinator responsible for obtaining
patient benefit information, filing insurance claims and monitoring
patient and insurance aging activity.
Sharon Kongsted
Mt. Airy Office and Discharge Coordinator
Ms. Kongstead has been serving the patients and doctors of Carroll Counseling Centers for over four years. Her main responsibilities revolve around the operation of our Mt. Airy location and the organization and maintenance of our discharged patient files. She also assists with patient intakes and assists in the filing and posting of insurance claims.

Erin Williams
Receptionist
Mrs. Williams joined Carroll Counseling Centers and the Attention and Learning Disorders Clinic in October of 2010. She obtained her Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Towson University and is very knowledgeable about the mental health field having served patients in various capacities since her graduation in 2006. Her responsibilities include checking in patients at the Eldersburg office, collecting and recording payments, monitoring documentation and authorization of patient charts, assisting with appointment changes, routing calls to the appropriate provider and assisting with new patient intakes.
